Stay Fit Without Exercise

Category UnCategories

The idea of scheduling certain parts of your day devoted to exercise is extremely unappealing to many people. For those of us with busy schedules, it can be an added stress and even a deterrent to staying healthy. If scheduling time for a workout is the only way we know how to do it, we may avoid it altogether. There is a way to stay healthy, however, without abiding by the tradition rules of 'exercise'.

Live with movement. Do not lead a sedentary lifestyle. When you get home from work exhausted, don't sit down on the couch. It will further drain your energy. Move about and get your blood pumping through your veins. The best and easiest way to do this is right when you wake up. Put on upbeat music as your alarm and dance for fifteen minutes before having breakfast. It will get your energy level high, naturally, increase your appetite so you can eat a big, healthy breakfast and put you in a good mood because you've just grooved to your favorite music.

Don't take the elevator, ever! Take the stairs to keep your blood flowing throughout the day. If you have time, do a few repetitions up and down the stairs whenever you get the chance, to sneak in some movement throughout the day. Walk if you can, bike if you can. Sitting in a car through traffic is frustrating, will put you in a bad mood, and get you in the habit of sitting throughout your day.

Get up a little earlier and walk or ride to work. You will not only feel great and full of energy, ready to take on the day, but you will save a lot of money not paying for gas money, and you will be doing wonders for the environment by not contributing to the carbon emissions. Encourage co-workers to walk or ride with you, it is always more fun in groups!

Don't sit for long periods of time. Even if you are at a desk, get up and move around every now and again. Constantly stretch out your body to stay limber and alert. If your body is fatigued, your mind will be as well. If your body is active, your mind will be as well.

Incorporate dancing around throughout your day. How about when you get home from work and are feeling down? Make a twenty minute playlist to jump around to when you get home. Put yourself in good spirits and break a sweat.

Find hobbies that keep you moving. Try gardening for a full body workout. How about taking a class you are interested in the outdoors? Hiking through a national park, or rock-climbing. Try canoeing or water sports for fun, exciting activities that will not bore you like exercising at the gym will.
